Glassware
This category includes British and Continental drinking glasses such as early Venetian examples, 18th century British lead glass with engraved decoration and highly decorative 19th century Bohemian glasses. It also covers glass bottles, decanters and other collectable vessels.
Another much collected areas include art glass from the Art Nouveau and Deco periods by known designers such Emile Gallé and René Lalique.
Single-owner Lalique lots excite bidders
06 January 2020International interest at the Kingham & Orme (20% buyer’s premium) sale at Evesham on December 6-7 focused on René Lalique. A single-owner collection of the great French designer’s work attracted multiple phone and internet bidders from the US, the Continent and Russia.
Ancient glass reflects modern appeal
16 December 2019The sale at John Nicholson’s (25% buyer’s premium) in Haslemere on October 24 included a substantial collection of ancient (or ancient style) coloured glassware: more than 60 pieces sold across half a dozen group lots.

25 November 2019A vase by the great cameo glass artist George Woodall (1850-1925) was offered at auction for the first time at Bonhams’ sale of Fine Glass and British Ceramics last week.
Pupil follows master’s example
18 November 2019It is no coincidence that a glass bowl designed by Carl Witzmann (1883-1952), which was sold at Dr Fischer (28% buyer’s premium) in Heilbronn on October 19, reminded bidders of works by the great Austrian designer Josef Hoffmann. Witzmann was, after all, one of his pupils.

Lalique table lamp
07 October 2019Munich auction house Quittenbaum is holding a specialist sale of works by René Lalique on November 12. One of the eye-catchers is an 11in (27cm) high table lamp with a bronze base, engraved with peacocks, and the opalescent figure of a naked young woman holding a translucent drape in her outstretched arms.
