Émile Gallé

Emile Gallé was a French designer from Nancy in North East France famous for his glassware and furniture created in the fashionable Art Nouveau style of the late 19th and early 20th century of which he was a pioneer.

His sought-after glass wares produced in his factory in Nancy are notable for their profusion of different techniques from multiple layers of different coloured glass with engraving and inclusions. The decorative motifs are often plant-based.

Gallé’s furniture makes distinctive use of organic forms and marquetry.
