Icons, porcelain, silverware, hardstone, works in gold and silver: these and many others are key sectors of the Russian works of art market.
Fabergé is the among most recognisable names in this field. Founded in St Petersburg in 1842, the jewellery firm was a favourite of the Russian Tsars and pieces of all kinds remain desirable and tend to command high prices at auction.
Russian art sales see some return to form
14 June 2010THE latest Russian art sales in the capital saw the continuing recovery of an important sector for London’s auctioneers. The market may lack the free spending seen before the downturn in October 2008 but the June sales were significantly up on the equivalent series last year.

It had been given to the vendor's husband by his grandfather who had lived and worked in St Petersburg until the time of the Revolution and had met Carl Fabergé in person.
