It sold to a private buyer from Birmingham who sat in the saleroom next to the vendor, a local lady who had been given the painting some years ago and had dispensed with the original heavy oak frame. Underbidding came from a Devonshire dealer and a number of Irish dealers on the telephone and in the room.
Painting sold at Edgar Horns which fetched £58,000
UK: PAUL Henry’s A Village in Connemara which sold for £58,000 at Edgar Horns in Eastbourne on July 12. The 16 x 24in (41 x 61cm) oil on canvas is fully signed and still bears an original paper label on the stretcher with title and artist, though the frame is a replacement.
