The award, which is shared with BAMF’s lobby advising firm GJW (recently merged with Weber Shandwick Worldwide), is for their long-term campaign on droit de suite, both in the UK and in Europe. GJW’s key advisers, Tony Page and Wilf Weeks worked closely with BAMF on the campaign for several years. A notable aspect of the campaign that impressed the judges was their anticipation of the 1997 Labour General Election victory and the briefing of the appropriate shadow ministers beforehand, with the result that Downing Street gave its full backing, with Tony Blair even lobbying EU leaders. In addition, they developed an international database of media contacts across Europe, whom they briefed regularly.
