Ms Brooks had been due for sentencing on May 23, but, as expected, this was delayed after charges were brought against Sotheby’s majority shareholder Alfred Taubman, whose trial is expected to start in October. The level of Ms Brooks’ sentencing is widely believed to depend on how the authorities view her co-operation over the prosecution of Mr Taubman.
Last week The New York Times, which has had privileged access to key memos held by the courts, claimed that the documents pointed to a “cozy partners” arrangements between Sotheby’s and Christie’s. It believes the memos will form the centre of the prosecution’s case.
