Timed to link with Art Paris (the contemporary art fair that occupies the other half of the stylish subterranean space at the Carrousel), SM’ART was a small affair featuring around 20 dealers, mostly from Paris, but some from further afield (Germany, the Netherlands and Italy). Stands were set out as room displays although the packed cocktail-quaffing opening wasn’t the easiest time to appreciate the exhibitors’ judicious use of space.

The two fairs ran until October 2, and of the 27,000 visitors that attended, 3500 went specifically to see the SM’ART show.

According to the organisers, the participants “achieved their aim of making themselves known to a wider public and increasing their contacts”. Cristiani Gallery from Milan reported good sales of 1980s pieces and Parisian Clara Scremini did well with contemporary glass. The aim for next year is to increase the size of the event to around 35-40 exhibitors.
