Interest generated on the Web in the bi-monthly general antiques sale on May 3, came from as far afield as Chicago and Sweden from where bidders contributed to the £20,280 total.

Ceramics were the main strength with a quantity of Coalport blue bordered and floral decorated teawares leading the day at £900.

A married Grimwades Royal Winton beehive moulded dish and cover offered together with a pair of Goebel figures provided the surprise of the day.

Enthusiastic bidders were undeterred by the married nature of the highly decorative beehive dish and cover and the hammer fell at £210.

Best of the furniture was a large Victorian walnut table with lyre-shaped end supports which brought £380 and elsewhere a reproduction oak carved blanket box went at £250 and a 20th century oak breakfront sideboard brought £175.
