First up are former Birmingham rivals Nicholas Davies (from Biddle & Webb) and William Farmer (from Weller and Dufty), who have joined forces to launch their own auction firm based in Stourbridge in the West Midlands.
Fieldings Auctioneers Ltd, who will hold their first sale at Hagley Community Hall on October 20, will specialise in antiques and collectables, including furniture, ceramics, silver, jewellery, watches and fine art. The two partners also expect to focus on their key areas of expertise, 20th century decorative arts (Farmer) and silver and jewellery (Davies) as the business builds.
They will operate out of a head office in Stourbridge, hiring venues for their monthly sales and to start with sourcing much of their material locally. Both believe that there is room for another auctioneer in the area and argue that the key to success is top quality customer service.
“Having worked in the trade for many years, we believe that top quality service is paramount,” said Nicholas Davies. “We will go out of our way to look after our clients by providing an approachable hands-on service ensuring that the customer’s needs will always be met.”

In Newport, David Brettell MRICS, FAAV, formerly with Barbers & Son of Market Drayton, has now set up on his own. Brettells auctioneers, just 10 miles south of his old stamping ground, open this week, with a weekly general sale on Tuesday, October 9. They add their second string on Tuesday, November 20, with their first bi-monthly Antiques auction.
