When we visited Mr Vervoordt’s smaller-than-usual stand at the Biennale we were given invitations to visit the display Kanaal a Paris on the barge.

A clever marketing ploy matched, as you can see here, by a stunning display on the barge where Mr Vervoordt’s trademark eclectic blending of styles, cultures and periods was shown to maximum effect against a stark, heavy metal backdrop.

The barge remained in place for the duration of the fair (which closed on September 29 and is reviewed in this week’s Overseas Events) and not only drummed up business in Paris but proved a compelling advertisement for Kanaal, Axel Vervoordt’s recently opened design headquarters in a converted 1870 industrial complex near his castle at Wijnegem.
