Described as “the most comprehensive review of the greatest Bordeaux vintages of the 20th century seen at auction in Continental Europe for a decade”, the auction, titled Fine and Rare Wines – Tribute to the First Growths, will focus on a selection of wines entered directly from the cellars of the great Bordeaux châteaux themselves backed up by further private entries and sections devoted to Burgundy, the Rhone and the Loire. The pre-sale estimate for the sale is €750,000 (£500,000).

“The sale heralds the arrival of Paris as a major international wine auction centre, and it now becomes an integral part of Christie’s International Wine Department,” commented David Elswood, head of Christie’s European Wine Sales.

A second Paris wine auction is scheduled to take place at Christie’s Avenue Matignon salerooms on December 7.
