Art Deco is even more sought after than Nouveau at present and it was a Deco piece which led the silver – a four-piece coffee set by Mappin & Webb, 1936, which took £800.
Best of the items in the furniture section was a Regency mahogany and brass inlaid pianoforte marked Phillips, London which sold to the specialist trade at £1250.
Double appeal sees ivory sell at £1400
The continued demand for Art Nouveau and the ageless appeal of the female nude provided a winning combination at the sale held by Richard Winterton (11% buyer’s premium) at Burton-on-Trent on March 13.
