His departure comes almost exactly a year after he moved to London from Australia, where he was managing director of Sotheby’s Australia and New Zealand, to take up a new role as managing director of the company’s new second saleroom in West London.
Mr Sumner, who left the company towards the end of May, said that his departure was for personal reasons.
“My leaving doesn’t reflect at all on Sotheby’s Olympia,” he told the Antiques Trade Gazette last week.
Sotheby’s said last week that Michael Bing has been appointed as acting managing director of the Olympia rooms; he will be reporting to senior executive Paul Mack.
