The day will be divided into two guided tours, one in the morning of the furniture collection and one in the afternoon on paintings.
Other events will include an introductory talk on Dutch tiles by Jan Daan van Dam, who has been Keeper of Ceramics and Glass at the Rijksmuseum since 1989, and a private view of Christie’s sale of 20th century Decorative Arts, with a short talk by department head Marcel Brouwer.
The weekend will see delegates visiting the Teyler Museum in Haarlem, the Netherlands’ oldest museum, where they will be given a lecture by Professor Gerard L’E Turner, the internationally renowned historian of scientific instruments, on the museum’s collection. A visit has also been arranged to the Frans Hals Museum, home to 11 paintings by the artist, including his world-famous Civic Guard and regents portraits.
The conference will round off with a trip to the Paleis Het Loo in Apeldoorn, the favourite summer residence of the Statholders and Dutch Royal Family from 1686 to 1975, and now a museum.
The Antiques Trade Gazette and the leading restoration firm Plowden & Smith are again co-sponsors of the conference, with Aon Artscope sponsoring the drinks reception at Christie’s.
RICS 2002 conference in Amsterdam
THE RICS have announced details of their 2002 Fine Arts Conference, which will be held in Amsterdam from November 14-17. Highlights of the conference include a day at the Rijksmuseum prior to its renovation next year during which time its displays will be significantly reduced.
