The silver-gilt pair, with typical rococo scrolls and foliage, dated London 1763 and weighing nearly 1800 grams, went at £3700 to a London bidder on the phone.
There were good individual prices across the various sections – there were, for instance, bids of £2900 on an Art Deco gilt bronze and ivory group by Raffaello Nannini of Pierrot and a maiden standing by a fern, and £3600 for a good 18th century mahogany stick barometer – but the biggest money and most interest was triggered by a suite of 1930s furniture by Epstein.
The dining room suite of table, chairs and sideboard took £4400, the bedroom suite of two wardrobes, bedhead, dressing table and bed tray made £2200 and a drawing room suite upholstered in grey leather took £1600.
