The new fair will be held every two years at the Carrousel du Louvre, alternating with the famous Paris Biennale which is also held
in September at the same venue. This year’s dates are September 12 to 18.
Under their president Christian Deydier, the Syndicat felt it was time for a new type of international fair consisting of specialist dealers grouped together in their area of expertise.
Among the groupings envisaged are furniture and works of art from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, textiles, tribal art and paintings. Divided into specialist sectors, it is thought the fair will enable exhibitors to exploit their expertise to the full while collectors will find it easy to focus on their particular area of interest.
The look of the fair is described as “sober yet innovative”, but the Syndicat are at pains to emphasise that this is a show for works of top quality. At the inaugural staging a major collection of 15th to 18th century Chinese cloisonné will be displayed and a programme of specialist lectures is being prepared.
French dealers confirm alternative Paris Biennale
LAUNCHED next September, a new biennial fair organised by France’s national dealers’ association, the Syndicat National des Antiquaires, will be called Le Salon du Collectionneur – Paris.
