Over two decades Mr Goodrow, pictured right, has had extensive experience of the international art market; his most recent position was director and senior specialist for the Post War & Contemporary Art department at Christie’s in London.

After studying art history at Rutgers University in his home state of New Jersey, the new director studied at the University of Cologne and after working for various museums in America and Germany in the mid 1990s was the Cologne correspondent for a number of New York art publications.

The organisers hope to strengthen Cologne’s role as a centre for international art trading by creating this new position and Mr Goodrow has been briefed not just to promote the fair but also to pull in more foreign exhibitors and visitors.

ART COLOGNE runs from October 29 to November 2.
