Illustrated right is the title page of Perry’s Treatise on the Prevention and Cure of Tooth-ache..., published at 1/6d in 1827 and illustrated with numerous woodcuts.

This is a scarce work that does not appear in the usual bibliographies and the copy in the Cohen
collection, bound in later boards, was sold at £210 to Pickering & Chatto. T.W. Perry’s book contains directions on “preserving the teeth and gums from disease and discolouration to the latest period in life”, as well as “Instructions to Mothers on the Management and Cutting of Teeth in Children”.

Also illustrated right is one of the 16 engraved plates after Jan van Rymsdyck (here bound back to front) that illustrate John Hunter’s Natural History of the Human Teeth.... Bound in contemporary calf gilt, rubbed at the joints, the Cohen copy was a 1771 first edition of a famous work that is described in Garrison-Morton’s medical bibliography as “a detailed study of the mouth, jaws, and teeth with exceptionally fine plates”, and one that bore the bookplate of Eli Cope (140-?1805), a surgeon active at Leek in Staffordshire.
