On February 4 thieves broke into the Arkwright Society’s site at Cromford Mills and made off with the clock which dated back to 1770. The distinctive dial is marked with the words J.Jeffryes Cromford and carries a bird and plant motif.

The Arkwright Society is an educational charity primarily involved in the restoration of Sir Richard Arkwright’s Cromford Mills, the world’s first successful water-powered cotton mill. They also run other projects including residential stays for underprivileged children.
