The 19pp sales catalogue for a Bentley 31/2 litre seen right, illustrated with six plates and in cord tied brown card covers, sold at £310, while in a hardbound poppered cover of purple rexine, a handbook (No.VI) for “the last series of ‘Derby’ built Bentley 41/4 litre, ‘MR-MX’ chassis cars fitted with the ‘Overdrive’ gearbox”, 1938-39 – which, as all Bentley buffs will know, was the only full handbook issued for this model – made £420. Rolls-Royce literature included a string-tied sales catalogue for 20hp model of 1928, at £350, but top lot at £800 was The Care of a Rolls-Royce Car, 40/50hp Six Cylinders 1907-09, issued in March 1909. Hardbound in green buckram with gold tooling, this handbook covered the early ‘Silver Ghost’ series.
