Art & Craft of selling
MONMOUTH dealer Nick Wheatley – a specialist in Arts & Crafts, as the name of his shop Our House 1860-1925, at 6-8 St. James Street, implies – has also beeen building up for a show.
The show comprises Arts & Crafts Movement Furniture and Metalware with prices ranging from £250 to £12,500 for a Clement Heaton cabinet. However, there is a lot in the £2000-4000 range.
In addition to the Clement Heaton star item, the 70 or so pieces of furniture includes work by Liberty, Heal and Shapland & Co. while the metalwork, again around 70 examples, includes work by W.A.S.Benson, Newlyn and Keswick among others.
Mirrors, tapestries and lighting are also available in the exhibition which has a preview on October 1 from 2pm to 5pm when anyone with a serious interest in the subject is welcome. All bought objects must stay until the end of the exhibition.
