Of large proportions at 21 1/2in wide by 21in high (55 x 54cm) and of good colour, the oval form pair with spiral ribbed decoration were consigned by a vendor whose mother had bought them in the middle years of the last century. They were bought by an Irish dealer.
Evidence that the Irish market remains firm
This pair of early 19th century mahogany and brass-bound peat buckets soared to £68,000 plus 19.5% premium – six times their estimate – at Bonhams’ March 2 fine English and Continental furniture sale in Bond Street.
