As well as the general running of the centre the new manager will be overseeing a number of special events, starting with what he calls an Autumn Season Open Weekend on September 18 and 19 with complimentary refreshments and live entertainment. At present there are 70 dealers in the Chelsea centre but Neil Jackson hopes to develop the area at the back and accommodate another 12 or so.

Mr Jackson, 50, spent much of his career as a dealer in antique jewellery, cutting his teeth at Gray’s market in Mayfair and then, later, working with Moira in Bond Street.

So at least he knows life from both sides of the stands.
