Now I can confirm that he will launch the Oxfordshire Antiques Fair, in partnership with his son Lawson, on the bank holiday weekend of August 27 to 29 at Heythrop Park, a privately-owned hotel at Enstone, near Chipping Norton.
Reg said: “I aim to follow the traditional line for which I have been known in the past, and to organise good fairs which offer value for money and fill a niche in the marketplace.”
The fair will be datelined to 1920 with the exception of textiles and paintings which are acceptable up to 1950.
The fair will comprise some 40 stands and only five remain unbooked with some dealers well-known on the quality circuit having signed up, Ashleigh House Antiques, Peter Bunting and Tortoiseshell among them.
The Oxfordshire fair will be twice-yearly and admission £4.50.
Obviously since Sue Ede is now Cooper Fairs (confusing eh!) Reg cannot use the name Cooper, so his new circuit is to be known as Caminade Antiques & Fine Art Fairs, named after his house in France. I wonder if any of his old exhibitors will return to Reg and maybe stand at both Caminade Fairs and Cooper Fairs.
Reg is back – but not as Cooper
VETERAN fair organiser Reg Cooper is back – official. In early 2002 he sold his Cooper Antiques Fair circuit to Sue Ede, and for a while he remained at those fairs, helping out and exhibiting. But he has been gone for a while and recently rumours abounded that he was planning a comeback.
