The drawing, measuring 17 3/4 x 22in (45 x 56cm) and in its original framed and glazed condition, was one of six Bawden works entered by a local Essex vendor whose father had known the artist during the years he lived at Great Bardfield. The final bid of £10,500, offered by a London dealer on the phone, more than tripled the previous record of £3000 for a Bawden watercolour.
