First published in 1758, this set of engravings by W. Elliott after Thomas Smith of Derby may be related to original works known to have been prepared by Smith for his benefactor, Charles Cokayne, 5th Viscount Cullen. The latter's most famous horse, 'The Cullen Arabian', being prepared to service a brood mare, is featured in the first of the group.

Seen here is No.6, 'Finish'd Horses: Match'em & Trajan running at Newmarket'. The set seen at Bonhams, all close cut to the plate mark, was issued by Boydell & Parker in 1769.
