Led by James Taylor, who is the son of an antiques dealer of some 35 years standing, the sales will take place at the ‘Old Barn’ of the local hotel The Bear of Rodborough.

“Stroud is on the edge of the Cotswolds where there are a lot of antiques shops,” said Mr Taylor. “We looked around and found a location that didn’t have an auction house for a radius of 20 miles.”

He hopes that the good access to the premises will pay dividends. There are over 100 car parking spaces at the hotel. “It’s also an area of outstanding natural beauty,” he said.

The sales will feature art, antiques and collectables. They have already had a 17th century Wainscott oak chair consigned. “Since we started taking commissions, the phone’s not stopped ringing,” said Mr Taylor. Viewing will take place on the Tuesday before the sale and the auctioneers are planning to hold free valuations on Fridays and Saturdays.

Their buyer’s premium is 10 per cent and the vendor’s premium is 12.5 per cent.
