At present, 135 dealers sell from independently operated mini-galleries on two above-ground floors and one lower-level floor of The Showplace that is located at 40 West 25th Street in the Chelsea antiques district.
The new third-floor selling area, with its 75 lock-up showcases and 30 room settings, will not require dealers to be present during opening hours – unusual in New York City where many dealers regard booths at an antiques centre as a shop.
The owners say there has already been a lot of demand for the concept of a fully-staffed third floor. “Two months prior to opening, we’re already 50 to 60 per cent sold out of spaces.”
