Unearthed in the cupboard of a private home by L&T director Trevor Kyle, the Yongzheng (1725-1735) mark and period vase, stands 12in (30cm) high, has scrolled handles to the sides and is decorated all over with moulded stylised chrysanthemum heads and foliage. The form is very rare and the blue painted character mark indicated a piece made in the Imperial kilns for the Emperor.
Ten phone lines competed for the prize but the successful bidder, who wishes to remain anonymous, was in the saleroom.
