In addition to an exhibition showcasing international auction highlights to clients in the region on October 26-28, a two-sale series is planned at The Jumeriah Emirates Towers Hotel in Dubai in early 2007 – Jewellery & Watches on the evening of January 31 and a second evening sale of International Modern & Contemporary Art featuring works from Middle Eastern, Iranian, Indian and Western artists on February 1.
Helping this second stage of development in the emerging market is the new managing director of Christie’s Dubai Michael Jeha who will re-locate to the Gulf in October as will William Lawrie, a specialist in Islamic and Contemporary Middle Eastern art. Following her family’s relocation to the UK, former head Lydia Limerick will remain a key member of Christie’s Middle East team with frequent travel to the region.
Christie’s raise the tempo in Dubai
In the wake of their inaugural auction in Dubai in May, Christie’s are to make further investment in the fledgling Middle East market. New staff appointments and a sales calendar have been announced.
