Clarion Scotland, part of the group who organise London’s Olympia fairs, decided to discontinue these events late last year and there was surprise when, last February, they announced that they would revive the idea of a Glasgow fair.
Observers speculated that while it had been a notable achievement to stage a quality Scottish fair, the event would never prove profitable enough for Clarion.
Scottish dealer Becca Gauldie was appointed consultant show director and, while she had support from the Scottish trade, there was not enough English support to make the fair viable.
Mark Saunders, managing director of Clarion Scotland, told ATG: “We simply did not attract sufficient support for this show in the necessary time.”
Signed-up exhibitors have been informed and deposits returned.
Clarion shelve SECC fair again
CLARION Scotland have cancelled the Fine Art and Antiques Show Scotland scheduled for the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, Glasgow from August 17 to 20. The new fair was essentially a relaunch of Fran Foster’s Antiques For Everyone Glasgow, which ran at the SECC for six years until its final staging in May 2005.
