A former pumping station, the Whitewebbs Museum now has its own “Green Goddess”, a fire engine which, when it began production in 1953, was regarded as high tech. Designed to roll into action in the aftermath of a nuclear attack by the Soviet Union, the Goddesses had the unique ability to extinguish foam as well as pump water. The government recently cut its fleet of the ageing vehicles. Funds from the fair will go towards maintaining the GG. Tel: 020 8367 1898.
