“I’m going to have two vintage fairs next year in The 20th Century Theatre in Westbourne Grove,” she says. “This was once an antiques warehouse in the 1960s and is now a Grade II Listed building. It’s a fabulous place, much used in London Fashion Week and for product and book launches.” The first fair there is set for Sunday, March 25.
The 20th Century Theatre is one of London’s “ghost theatres”. With a skylight which runs the length of the building, it was a penny-picture house, a professional theatre called the Bijou and a music hall. It also has the distinction of being the theatre where Sir Laurence Olivier made his debut aged 17 in 1925.
Anita’s fair at Battersea on Sunday, December 3 is expected to be busy as it’s the last before Christmas. The organiser has 65 stallholders booked and “a massive waiting list”. She is also taking vintage fashion to the Clothes Show Live at the NEC in Birmingham, which runs from December 1-6.
Only three London fair organisers concentrate on vintage fashion and its spinoffs: Matthew Adams with Frock Me! at Chelsea Town Hall, P&A Antiques at Hammersmith Town Hall and Dulwich College, where a vintage fashion fair will also take place on Sunday, December 3, and Anita Bott’s Vintage Fashion Fairs at Battersea Arts Centre.
