The Amsterdam-based Mr Aronson had been chairman of the executive committee at Maastricht since 1999, and was also a board member of Dutch national fair pan Amsterdam.

Last week members of the board and management of TEFAF said Mr Aronson will be remembered for his warm and affable personality, decisive manner and no-nonsense approach, and his fairness at all times.

Dave Aronson was well known as a dealer in Dutch faience, especially Delftware.

At last year's Maastricht fair Mr Aronson and his son Robert celebrated the 125th anniversary of Aronson Antiquairs, founded in 1881 in the Dutch city of Arnhem by Dave's great grandfather Leon Aronson (1830-1910).
In 1900, the company moved to Amsterdam and in 1967 Mr Aronson joined his parents Ab and Noen in the family business.

Dave's son Robert joined his father in 1992 and this year the business celebrates 21 years in their recently refurbished, four-floor premises in Nieuwe Spiegelstraat.
