As of December 1, Miranda Grant will be the new MD, replacing Mark Richards who is leaving the company to set up his own business.
Ms Grant, a fellow of the Gemmological Association who has held a number of senior roles as a jewellery specialist, has been with Bonhams for five years and currently heads their jewellery department in Scotland.
Among her first tasks will be to oversee the movement of the Edinburgh operation from their longstanding residence at 65 George Street to new premises.
The building has now sold for redevelopment and the last major series of sales at George Street will be held on December 5-7 to be followed by a low-key art and antiques sale on January 8, the final auction at George Street.
Bonhams have yet to announce the address or the nature of their new premises, but have confirmed that a suitable building has been found in the centre of Edinburgh. The frst sales will be in March.
• Meanwhile, Lyon & Turnbull have announced the appointment of two new board directors from their staff.
Gavin Strang, 35, joined Lyon & Turnbull in 2002. Prior to that he was with Christie's in Glasgow for five years. Rachel Doerr, 35, began her career as saleroom manager with Bonhams Chester before becoming saleroom manager for Lyon and Turnbull.
She has now returned to Cheshire where she heads up Lyon & Turnbull's insurance valuation departments. They are the first new appointments to the L&T board since the company started in 1999.
Paul Roberts, vice chairman of the Edinburgh-based auction house, described the dual promotions as a reward for "two of our shining stars".
Lyon & Turnbull have also announced the appointment of Bob Cooke as head of their fiduciary business operations. Mr Cooke, who worked with Barclays for 30 years managing their probate division, had been with Bonhams for nine years. He can be contacted on 01728 638838.
