While pictures sold in specialist auctions are typically held by Christie’s until the fifth Friday after the sale before moving to storage (unsold pictures are held for less time), those included in multi-discipline sales are treated differently.

All sold or unsold items not collected from Christie’s South Kensington by 9am on the day following Interior or Country House auctions are immediately removed by shipping specialists Cadogan Tate to their warehouse in Nine Elms, SW8. There they are stored free of charge for up to two weeks.

Christie’s say the removal of furniture, objects and pictures to one site after sales has generally met a positive reaction from buyers, but conceded there has been some confusion on the matter.

A letter written to ATG on the matter by disgruntled Bond Street dealer James Mitchell is printed on page 98 of this week’s printed newspaper.
