Measuring 4in (10cm) high, it is engraved on one side with a tobacco jar and message From Corbett Russell & Co to the tobacco trade of Glasgow and Paisley dated April 2,1807.

The inscription to the reverse, further engraved with tobacco leaves and snuff jars, goes on to detail the setting up and regulation of a society.

At Bonhams' themed event The Scottish Sale held in their new Edinburgh salerooms on August 27-29, it was bought by a specialist dealer for £4600 (plus 20 per cent buyer's premium).
