The venue, 25 Blythe Road, W14, is the same premises used by Thomas Del Mar to sell antique arms, armour and militaria and Charles Miller for specialist marine and scientific instrument sales.
Barton’s career has involved many years at Sotheby’s – he was head of their valuations department at the Olympia saleroom – but has also included time with a Nairobi-based auction business and, recently, as a member of the Lyon & Turnbull South team.
Matthew Barton Ltd will be London’s only specialist auction house dedicated to the sale of silver, works of art and objects of vertu.
Sales, slated for November and May, will feature a cross-section of material including objects that fall below the minimum lot values now operated by the larger auction houses. Entries can be accepted up to September 23.
