While the popular sales of chattels priced between £50 and £500 will continue at salerooms in Chester, Knowle, Edinburgh and Oxford, the no-nonsense £2 catalogues (with full lot descriptions and estimates, but no illustrations) will now be replaced by an email alert to subscribers.
Copies of future Art and Antiques catalogues can be printed from Bonhams’ website or will be available for consultation in the saleroom.
In a letter to catalogue subscribers, Bonhams say the decision has been taken to save paper.
Similar environmental concerns were raised earlier this year when Sotheby’s changed the catalogue format for some sales to a ‘handbag-friendly’ size.
