In its inaugural year the Object of the Year competition, which was run in conjunction with Country Life, succeeded admirably in showcasing the range and quality of items from the stock of LAPADA members.

All 12 objects on the shortlist were on display at Olympia and all were worthy contenders, but few could argue with the credentials of the Linke desk which was already a prize winner, having won a gold medal at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle when it was the centrepiece of the Linke stand.
In a remarkable coup, Adrian Alan had once again succeeded in reuniting all the main Linke pieces from that 1900 exhibition on his own stand at Olympia.

The two runners-up in the LAPADA competition were a fine musical bell box from the Antique Enamel Company and a rare pair of tapestries from Witney Antiques.
