The new premises will be across the docks in the 11,000 sq ft former Matthews Carpet warehouse, and dealers at the centre are hoping to benefit from being close to the new designer outlet shopping centre opening in May as part of the £400m Gloucester Quays redevelopment.

The centre, with around 100 dealers, has traded in the docks for 30 years at the former Victorian grain warehouse known as The Lock. The site - that needs extensive refurbishment that would have necessitated dealers moving out - is now being turned into 26 apartments with retail units at ground level.

Property developers Evan Maindonald and Raine Thurston won planning permission for the apartments the last year on condition that another home was found for the Gloucester Antiques Centre in the docks.
