On November 17, flood water penetrated the storeroom of the saleroom, but Jefferys considered themselves fortunate as the contents of the December 1 sale had been moved into the Fore Street saleroom the previous week. Fore Street was just yards from the flood waters but was ultimately unaffected.
Those items affected by up to 10in of muddy water in the store were household furnishings to be offered in a general sale.
"It's a week of inconvenience more than anything else," said auctioneer Ian Morris. "But a week earlier and it would have all been under water."
