Seven fire crews tackled the blaze, which started at around 5.20pm on the first floor of the Station Mill Antiques Centre, just minutes after it had closed for the day.
Nobody was hurt, although one third of the two-storey building was destroyed.
The centre, bought by Tim Langer in 2000, houses more than 80 dealers. It is expected to reopen early in 2011.
