This new competition tested the abilities of six novice property and chattel auctioneers who were asked to sell four very mixed lots: a Cheviot lamb, Palmerston Fort in the Solent, a Welsh castle and Lord Mountbatten's .22 pencil pistol.

After a close-fought competition Charles was awarded the Clive Emson NAVA Rose Bowl at the Belfry Hotel, near Birmingham on September 28.

Richard Worrall was the runner up and the other competitors were Timothy Goodwin, Ben Snelling, Ronan Connolly and Nick Ball.

The competition judges were property auctioneer Richard Auterac of Acuitus, Colin Young of Golding Young and Thomas Mawer and Mark Bridge, editor-in-chief of ATG.
