Three interesting but slightly lower value prints on offer on September 22 were a set of early 1920s impressions by Dame Laura Knight (1877-1970).
In this period, the artist experimented with etchings, aquatint, linocuts, woodcuts and lithographs, and the most expensive of the three at Bonhams was an artist's proof copy of the aquatint Powder and Paint. One of 20 impressions, the signed 13 x 10in (33 x 26cm) image went for £1500 against an £800-1200 estimate.
Another aquatint, Filia Mundi, made £400, while the 1920 etching and aquatint Dancing on Hampstead Heath made £700.
The joint top lots of the 434-lot sale were a full set of 20 lithographs by Joan Miró (1893-1983) entitled Maravillas con Variaciones, which made £3200, and a Francesco Piranesi (1758-1810) c.1790 etching in colour, entitled Fuoco Artificiale detto la Girandola, estimated at £2000-3000, which made the same price.
Overall, 315 lots sold (73%) for a hammer total of £209,670.
The buyer's premium was 20/12%.
