It is all in the name of progress, and Chris Richardson, who is to continue as a consultant, said: "It was essential for the future of the business to move into the 21st century and adopt the internet age with sales online plus state-of-the-art websites and methods."
He added: "I am a dinosaur in relation to such matters, but moving forward and embracing modern methods is overdue."
Auctions will continue in Bourne with existing staff continuing to run the salerooms, and Chris said: "They have been with me for up to 30 years and I thank them all for their loyalty and hard work over these years. We have sold upwards of three million lots with an average of 50 sales per year.
"I would also like to thank all our clients for their instructions and friendship over the years. Some have been with us for over 30 years and I am certain that we can continue and improve our service for many more. I would also like to thank John Castley, the well-known auctioneer, who has assisted with his vast experience and distinct and popular style at sales for the last 18 years.
"I would also like to thank Sandra, my wife, for her support and advice over the years and for help and patience with the long hours spent at the saleroom."
Golding Young & Mawer, operate out of two salerooms - Grantham and Lincoln - and have a satellite valuation office in Stamford. Having served the Lincolnshire area since 1864, they see the merger as a natural progression.
Managing Director Colin Young was described by Chris as "a natural successor, having spent his formative years as an auctioneer at The Bourne Auction Rooms".
"He has been really successful, knows the business inside out and I am certain he is the man to take the business forward. He is also a great auctioneer and I am sure clients will be delighted with the services offered," Chris added.
"Although it is a sad day for me to stand back after 35 years, it is heartening to know that the institution that is The Bourne Auction Rooms will continue for years to come giving a professional and personal service to clients and friends."
