The Daniels chair had been estimated at £300-500 but, as it is known from a number of photographs showing the horologist at work, it generated plenty of interest.

The buyer was Winchester dealer Gerald Marsh Antique Clocks. Director Darrell Dipper told ATG: "George has been an inspiration to many of us at GE Marsh. Although we do not sell furniture we could not pass up the chance of buying this unique piece."

The chair is for sale and will shortly be available to view at Gerald Marsh.
