Decorated with clouds, flowers and bats, and with a six-character mark dating it to the Yongzheng period (1723-35), it came with an invoice from New York Chinese art dealers C.T. Loo dated to 1961.

Against a £200,000-300,000 estimate, the 16in (41cm) high yellow-ground vase was secured by the Asian trade for £2.65m on November 5 at Christie's King Street.
