It measures 11in (27cm) high, weighs 23oz and carries the registered number 369132.
This form, often accompanied by peacock blue enamel to the undulating wave decoration, has been much published. The version owned by Hollywood actor Brad Pitt, perhaps the best-known collector of Knox's work, formed part of the Liberty Style exhibition in Japan in 1999-2000, while another was sold by Sotheby's in October 2004 for £44,000.
The buyer of this example, minus the enamel decoration, was a private collector in the room who was content to pay more than ten times the low estimate.
The sale was held on March 27 and the buyer's premium was 17.5%.
