Dell was among just three survivors from this trip and was held in high regard by Scott who wrote a reference for him in 1909 describing him as "one of the best men on the expedition - cheerful, hardworking and very intelligent".
Dell also joined the Shackleton-Rowett Antarctic Expedition of 1921-22.
He was one of the last men to see Shackleton on the night he died aboard the Quest and was a pallbearer at his funeral.
The ice pick will go under the hammer at Greenslade Taylor Hunt's sale on March 7 in Taunton estimated at £500-1000.
